- Trevor’s tips for growing edibles at home:
- Opt for sealed, lightweight pots to ensure they are practical for indoor use and help retain moisture.
- Obtain a premium quality potting mix that’s rich in organics and nutrients and includes a wetting agent.
- Fill the pots about ¾ full of the potting mix. Ensure the mix is evenly distributed and packed gently.
- Feed your herbs with a balanced, liquid fertiliser every few weeks to support healthy growth.
- For Mint: Harvest as needed but avoid cutting more than one-third of the plant at a time to ensure it continues to grow.
- For Chamomile: Harvest flowers when they are fully open for the best flavour and therapeutic benefits.
- For tea’s: Use fresh leaves from the herbs to make tea. Mint teas can be made by steeping the leaves in hot water, and Chamomile can be used for a relaxing infusion.
- Use a second pot for rotation. Once herbs in the first pot are ready for harvest, you can switch pots to ensure continuous growth and harvesting.
